Horticultural crops in Bihar

Bihar is the country’s top in litchi production. Banana, mango, guava, and pineapple are among of the state’s other notable fruits. West Bengal produces roughly 17.0 percent of the country’s total cauliflower production.

October

Destroy any twigs infected with the psylla shoot gall. Insecticides (thiamethoxam 1g/liter of water + profenophos 2ml/liter of water + sticker) should be sprayed. Both pesticides should be sprayed twice with 1/2 ml/ litre of water, with the first spraying taking place in the third week of August and the second spraying taking place 15 days later.

Planting papaya in a raised bed with Trichoderma to protect the plants from foot rot. Land preparation for potato seeding in the field according to the variety for an early production. Cauliflower seeds are sown in a well-prepared nursery and early types are planted. Planting of pointed gourd and nursery growing for mid-season cauliflower, cabbage, and other cole crops.

Land preparation and radish, carrot, coriander, spinach, beetroot, and turnip seeding. Complete the banana plantation in the new field. In the fruit orchards, complete the intercultural operation (tillage and cleaning) and apply fungicide (0.2 percent) to fight fungal diseases.

On each mango tree, apply 40-50 kg of compost per plant. Sowing pulses and vegetables in a newly constructed orchard. Tie polythene bands around the tree trunk and apply grease at the lower end of the tree trunk at the right time for mealy insect management.

Fruit tree basins (mango, litchi, etc.) are mulched with fallen leaves, dried weeds and grasses/plant residues to conserve soil moisture.

November

Intercultural and earthing-up operations in potato, cole crops, and solanaceous vegetables, as well as the application of the leftover fertiliser doe. Planting tomato, brinjal, and other crops, as well as sowing vegetables pea var (Bonneville/ Arkel/ Azad matar). Apply Rhizobium to the seeds before sowing and Trichoderma to the field.

To protect new gardens from frost, thatch them with straw, grass, and other materials. Weed and clean the tree trunks, then put 40-50 kg of rotting manure per tree dung. Sprays of Imidacloprid 17.8 SL are used to suppress shoot borer, thrips, hoppers, and other lepidopteran pests (by making a solution in 1 ml per litre of water).

Apply KNO3 (Potassium nitrate 1 percent) in litchi and mango at the right time for shoot maturity and bearing regulating. Dimethoate /Metacystax (02 ml) 3 ml on trees. Spray Rogar/ Metasystax / Demacran and 30 gm Dithane M-45 dissolved in 10 litres of water.

December

If disease incidence occurs in potato and other vegetable crops, irrigate the field as needed and spray fungicide. Spray 0.25 percent mancozeb at the onset of disease, followed by 0.25 percent cymoxanil + mancozeb or metalaxyl 8 + mancozeb 64 percent WP (0.25 percent) at 0.3 percent, and one more spray of 0.25 percent mancozeb seven days after application of systemic fungicides, and light irrigation in the field.

Apply mild irrigation to protect the new orchards from frost. Phosphorus and potash in the required amounts should be applied to the trees. Renovation of an old senile mango and guava orchard at the right time.

Clean the traps and holes for bark-eating insects and stem-bearing insects, insert a bit of cotton soaked in Kerosin oil, and fill with mud or dung.

January

It’s time to start preparing the field for summer crops, sowing vegetable seeds, and transplanting onions. Spray Karathane 0.1 percent during the morning hours on Brinjal, Tomato, and Chilli plants to avoid fungal disease of peas. Use the insecticide recommended to protect the mango crop against honeybees and other pests.

Irrigate the potato every 10 to 15 days, depending on the situation. Mancozeb should be sprayed at a concentration of 0.25 percent. In the first week of January, fertilise fruit trees with dung manure and phosphorous fertilisers.

If there isn’t any rain, use modest irrigation and only add half of the needed nitrogen. Irrigate little plants to keep them from freezing. Cucurbitaceous nursery production in a poly tunnel for early planting in the main field

February

Planting brinjal, tomato, and chilli plants in the field after transplanting cucurbitaceous vegetable plants. PSB can be used to protect seedlings from bacterial infections. 15 days before potato digging, turn off the irrigation and remove the leaves for the seed crop.

Early in the spring season, dig the sweet potato and sow the taro. Irrigation, weeding, and hoeing should all be done when the onion and garlic crops are ready. In the first two weeks of this month, sow okra and cowpea. Gardening should be cleaned up. To protect little plants from frost, irrigate them.

Intercropping crops and summer crops like okra and pumpkin should be sown in new orchards. Cut and destroy the afflicted flower if the midge influence is obvious. After the blossoms have burst, as soon as the beetle breakout begins and the number of beetles per blossom reaches 5-10, a first spray of Imidacloprid (0.005%) should be used. Spraying soluble sulphur (2g/l) on mango and litchi trees during flowering and keep a bee box in the Mango and Litchi Orchards while the blooms are in bloom for the best results.

March

Harvesting, grading, and storing potatoes in a cold storage facility. To grow papaya seedlings, sow seeds. Bunch disease-affected twigs should be clipped and removed. Scabies can be controlled by spraying Karathane (0.6 percent) and.0.5ml/L sticker added to mango and litchi fruits to prevent NAA 20 ppm fruit drop spraying. 0.1 percent borax foliar application to prevent interior tissue deterioration and black fruit tips. 15 days after fruit set, spray small fruits with NAA 20 ppm solution and Borax (0.1 percent) solution.

Give a third dose of nitrogen and potassium when the fruiting process is over, and keep the moisture level up with irrigation.

April

Sowing Colocassia, Turmeric, and Elephant Foot Yam as a single crop or intercrop in litchi and mango orchards.

Layout and excavation of pits for new fruit tree orchards at the right moment. Irrigate summer veggies and do an intercultural operation. Apply nitrogen fertilisers with irrigation. Vegetable crop harvesting according to maturity. Plant papaya according to the needs of cauliflower, cabbage, weeding, and irrigation.

If there is a lot of roasting pest, use Imidacloprid 17.8 SL (0.5 ml/L). To avoid black tip and internal tissue degradation, spray with borax (0.8-1.0 percent). Irrigate residual nitrogenous and potash fertiliser doses in fruit orchards.

Installing wooden sex scent traps on trees to determine the quantity of fruit flies and regulate them. Install a drip or sprinkler watering system to conserve water.

Apply Thiacloprid 21.7SC @0.05 percent around 40-45 days before harvesting to prevent fruit and seed borer infection.
