Oilseeds are grown in three seasons in Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal (Kharif, Rabi & Summer). In Bihar, sesame is the most important oilseed crop grown during the Kharif season. Sesame was grown on 2754 hectares in Bihar during the Kharif season, with an average yield of 868 kg per hectare.
Rapeseed/Mustard
Growing Season and varieties: If there isn’t enough soil, give the seeds a pre-sowing irrigation for enhanced seed germination. Begin spreading mustard seeds in the first week of October and finish by the second week of November. Aphid and leaf blight infestations are less common in early-sown crops.
Rapeseed/Mustard should be seeded at a spacing of 30cmX10-15cm at a depth of 4-5cm. Treat the seed with tricoderma@10g/kg of seed before sowing. After three weeks of seeding, thinning out must be done to ensure optimum plant population and healthy seedlings.
Grow a better mustard variety. Sej 2, Pusa Mahak, and Pusa Bold were sown on time; Rajendra Rai Pichheti, Rajendra Anukool, and Ashirvad were sown late; RH0749, T9,44S- 01, RGN 73, NRCHB 101, DRMR 150-35, NRCYS-05-02 were sown late. Suflam Rajendra According to the availability of growth period and purpose, Toria: RAUTS 17, Panchali; and Yellow Sarson: Rajendra Sarson 1, Ragini, Benoy.
Procedure and chemicals required: Plough and pulverise the field, then add a base dose of fertiliser before final preparation or sowing with a seed cum fertiliser drill. Apply 10-12 MT FYM per hectare, together with 60-90 kg N, 60 kg P2O5, and 40 kg K20. As a basal dose, apply half doses of N and full doses of P and K at the time of sowing, with the remaining half dose of N applied after the first irrigation. Because oilseed crops have a higher sulphur demand, apply @30kg/ha, it’s best to use single super phosphate or bentonite sulphur at sowing.
Crops require three irrigations in general, three weeks after sowing at 30DAS, before blooming and pod formation stage, in order to achieve good plant growth.
Linseed
Growing Season and varieties: Linseed can be sown from the first week of October to the first week of November. Planting is delayed, which reduces yield. Utera/Paira cropping refers to the planting of linseed in a standing paddy field.Sabour tisi1, Sabour tisi2, Garima, Sweta, Subhra, Gaurav, LCK-8528 are high producing cultivars to use.
Procedure and chemicals required: Linseed can be cultivated as a stand-alone crop or in combination with lentils and chickpeas. It’s also used in Paira cropping, which is a type of standing paddy crop. It is the most often used sowing method in the rice-growing region.Sow the crop using a 30X5cm row to row and plant to plant spacing and a 4-5cm depth.
Normal planting necessitates a seed rate of 20-30 kg/ha, while utera/paira cropping necessitates a seed rate of 30- 40 kg/ha.
At the time of field preparation, 8-10 tonnes of FYM were applied per hectare. Fertilizer application stimulates the growth of HYVs. Apply 50 kg of nitrogen and 40 kg of P2O5 per hectare. Apply a half-dose of nitrogen and a full-dose of phosphorus under irrigated conditions. The remaining 12 dosage of nitrogen was applied during the first irrigation. Apply the full amount of nitrogen and phosphorus to unirrigated regions. Applying 20 kg of sulphur per hectare at the time of seeding increased yield.
If there is no winter rain, the crop will require roughly two irrigations to achieve good plant growth. The first irrigation should be applied at 30DAS, and the second irrigation should be applied shortly before flowering.
